Coping 101

A student-led podcast destigmatizing mental health

Teens have a lot to teach us, when we’re ready to listen.

“Having more open conversations about mental health, bringing it up more, allows people to be more comfortable and open to talking about that topic. Since it can be really hard, the more regular that it is, the easier that it is to talk about.”

Just talk about it, normally.

Coping 101 is an award-winning student-led podcast from DANCE 89.5 in partnership with Seattle Children’s, 4Culture, and other community-minded partners, where high school hosts get real about mental health.

Through honest conversations with peers, artists, and behavioral health professionals, they break down stigma and share tools for coping with life’s challenges—because no matter your age or background, we all struggle sometimes, and there are healthy ways to cope.

Most Steer Clear

Coping with life’s stresses and trauma manifests in the decisions we make. Did you know that 9 out of 10 young adults in Washington DON’T drive under the influence of marijuana, alcohol, or other drugs? Most Young Adults steer clear of driving under the influence. Make sure to plan your night out so that you and your loved ones can get home safe. We need to emphasize the positive decisions these young people are making, and this episode dives into practical ways more of us can follow their lead. If everybody takes care of their friends and family, traffic deaths will decrease and we can make a real difference in saving lives across our communities. Seattle high school seniors Dylan, Estelle, and Gavin explore these themes with David Cruz who represents the Most Steer Clear campaign, which spotlights stories and data that show the positive decisions that keep our roads – and loved ones – safe. Tune in for some education, inspiration, and some real talk from today’s youth.
