James Gatz is a Seattle-based DJ, Producer, and Visual Artist from Tokyo, Japan. He is the Co-Founder, Label Manager, and Lead Event Organizer for Sub 49 Records, a Seattle Record Label established in 2018; Showcasing the heavier side of 4/4 music. His music production blends elements from Bass/Tech/Future/Garage/Deep House to create a sound that has been compared to the likes of MPH, Longstoryshort, AC Slater, Kyle Watson, etc.
On top of signing over 100+ artists and 200+ records for the label, James Gatz has been behind the scenes showcasing underground bass house music around the world. Leading or aiding in organizing shows internationally in countries such as Japan, Korea, Canada, Mexico and domestically in the US in cities like Seattle, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Bellingham. He’s brought many Headliners to the city such as MPH, ALRT, CASHEW, Ekonovah, Bloodtone, Fantom Freq, Chuck Shadow, and Hot Bullet just to name a few. He’s also opened for acts such as NERO, AC Slater, Nitti, Tony Romera, Crankdat, Cloonnee, Skiitour, Dustycloud, and played at festivals including Beyond Wonderland, Bass Canyon, USC Loves You, Freaknight, Electric Summer Camp, as well as Summer’s end!
Beyond being a DJ/Producer, he’s gained notoriety for being the “Jack-of-all-trades”. Having skills in Graphic Design, Stage Design, Art Galleries, 3D Visuals, VJ, Video Editing, Coding, Marketing, Advertising, Music Business, Talent Agency Negotiations, Local Bookings, and more to bring a seamless experience to shows while also building a solid brand image for Sub 49 Records.
